Are you new to vegetable gardening and don’t know where to start? This Vegetable Garden Planting Guide is a good resource with information on the size of planting needed per person and the average crop you can expect per 100 feet. It includes a handy garden calendar with suggested planting dates and expected harvest dates.
The Kansas Garden Guide is a more in-depth resource with 77 pages of information on planning a garden, composting, improving soil, seeding and planting, garden care, watering, planting gardens for fall production, insect and disease control, container gardening, season extension, and harvesting and storing. Wow – lots of information! It also includes an extensive section on how to grow specific vegetables and herbs.
Both of these publications are available online and at your local K-State Research and Extension (KSRE). If you are not sure where to find your local KSRE office, this map can help.
